London LAMDA Legends is a specialist online acting and communication tuition studio dedicated to developing confident voices and skilled performers. I work with students across the UK and beyond, including London, Birmingham and Manchester, supporting both aspiring actors and those seeking to build confidence, clarity, and presence in communication.

I am Darren Mawdsley BA (Hons), PGCE, NPQSL (pending) and I prepare young people and adults for examinations with the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA), including Acting, Speaking Verse & Prose, Reading for Performance, and Speaking in Public.

At the heart of my work is a commitment to confidence, ambition, and kindness — creating a learning environment that is both supportive and aspirational.

A Bit About Me

I bring over twenty years of teaching experience across schools, colleges, and higher education, alongside more than four decades of involvement in theatre and performance.

I have taught across both the north and south of England, including roles at Cheshire College South & West, City of Westminster College, and London’s Global Academy. I am currently Head of Drama at an all-through primary and secondary school in East London, where I teach up to GCSE level and have significantly improved subject outcomes.

Across my career, I have taught a wide range of qualifications including GCSE, BTEC, A-Level, and higher education courses in Drama and Performing Arts. I have also mentored trainee teachers through partnerships with PGCE leaders at institutions including Middlesex University, Goldsmiths, and the University of East London. I have extensive experience delivering LAMDA provision, having overseen examination preparation and entries at both JuJu Youth Theatre and Cheshire College South & West.

Alongside my work in formal education, I have a strong background in youth theatre. I taught at Lyceum Youth Theatre and was Founder and Artistic Director of JuJu Youth Theatre, based at Zion Arts Centre in Manchester.

Separately, I worked with JuJu Theatre as Company Stage Manager, overseeing a production of Splendour by Abi Morgan at The Yard, Manchester.

My connection to theatre began at a young age, performing with several youth theatres in the north of England before gaining representation at 16 and working in television by the age of 17. I even took LAMDA qualifications myself as a child.

I am Artistic Director, Company Manager and Director of Mad ‘Ed Theatre, where I lead the development of new, publicly funded work commissioned especially for the company. Productions include In Bloom, Side Affect, My Brothers and Sisters, and Sunday’s Child. The company’s work has been used to address issues of mental health nationally and internationally.

I have directed extensively with young people at venues across the country, including productions of The Crucible, Doctor Faustus, The Laramie Project, Road, The Visit, Romeo and Juliet, Attempts on Her Life, In the Blood, A Christmas Carol, and Little Shop of Horrors.

Alongside my theatre and education work, I have written as a theatre critic and contributed to a number of academic articles. I have also worked for over fifteen years as an Examiner and Moderator for Pearson, assessing Drama and Performing Arts qualifications.

My breadth of experience informs the personalised, high-quality training offered through London LAMDA Legends.

My Approach

At London LAMDA Legends, students are supported to develop not only technical skill, but confidence, independence, and a genuine enjoyment of performance and communication.

Whether preparing for examinations or building confidence for life, my aim is simple: to help every student find their voice — and use it well.
